Hiroshi Ishibashi, Chairman of AXIS Inc., was awarded the 2023 Red Dot: Personality Prize

Hiroshi Ishibashi, Chairman of the Board of AXIS Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Nobuo Asaka), has been awarded the Red Dot: Personality Prize 2023 by the prestigious international design award Red Dot Design Award, in recognition of his longstanding commitment to the promotion of design.

By establishing AXIS, Hiroshi Ishibashi has provided a platform for Japanese designers that is absolutely unique. It was thanks to his dedication that many designers and companies renowned in the West came to Tokyo in the 1980s and 1990s to set up new headquarters there. In this way, he succeeded in creating a whole new understanding of the link between design and commercial success. Hiroshi Ishibashi has been uncompromising in devoting his entire career to building and strengthening an appreciation for the value of design in Japan. All the while, he has made an extraordinary contribution to intercontinental understanding and the international network of designers and entrepreneurs. I am really delighted to award him the Red Dot: Personality Prize in recognition of his exemplary commitment.

It is my pleasure to be able to say thank you to all the people who worked with me in the past. I worked on many big projects, not only AXIS, but my other company, Bridgestone and also ARTIZON MUSEUM, which is my current big work. I tried to stress the importance of design in their businesses.To do that, I needed a lot of good, talented people, not only our staff from inside, but also from outside.And we worked together very hard to achieve the goals each time.And that's what I did.And this prize is not only for me, for myself, but also for the other people who worked with me in the past. So I dedicate this to them also. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Dr. Peter Zec, CEO of Red Dot, for drawing attention to our work.
