Cities in transformation

As represented by the term "smart city," urban management using digital infrastructure and big-data analysis incorporating information and communication technology (ICT) is attracting attention as an indispensable factor to future city development. Improved convenience in public transportation and diffusion of mobility-sharing through effective use of data will promote great changes in the use of land and space. Moreover, in the fields of health, medicine, and nursing that concern us all, various health data are positioned as an engine of growth for the city, and endeavors to make effective use of such information in city development are appearing. We explore forms of the city and life in the near future inspired by technology and design as driving forces that encourage new types of urban growth and lead us to more comfortable and affluent living.
